Mr Halpin


In our class, we use a functional timetable that is individual to each learner to help develop independence skills. Our theme this term is wildlife.

 

Key skills:

During key skills learners work on personalised maths and English targets. Learners work on these each day to help learn and reinforce skills they need most. Some of the main skills to develop in key skills include reading, sorting money and learning to tell the time.

 

   

 

Art:

For this term, learners are focusing on wildlife and making a variety of animals. In art, learners will access a variety of skills such as drawing, painting and using modelling rock.

 

   

  

 

 

 

Cooking:

Learners will prepare and cook a variety of meals and desserts for their school dinner. These skills will help to promote health and safety skills in the kitchen and practical skills the learners can continue to use.

 

    

 

 

Design & Technology:

Sticking with our wildlife theme, learners are building a bird house this term. The bird houses are already beginning to look really good! Learners have options of how their bird house is going to look and access a variety of skills including sanding, painting, varnashing and using a variety of tools.

 

    

   

 

 

Hydrotherapy:

Hydrotherapy is a sensory activity accessed by some learners to help meet thier individual needs. During these sessions, learners will be working on their communication and leisure skills, whilst also learning the first steps towards swimming.

 

Independent living:

During this lesson, learners will access a variety of activities designed to help promote and develop independence skills that will benefit them inside and outside of school.

 

    

 

 

Leisure targets:

Learners will develop their individual leisure targets to help build necessary skills that are beneficial to them, such as improving technology skills, playing a game with a partner or developing reading skills with books of interest.

   

 

 

Physical Education:

During PE, learners access a variety of sports and activities to keep active. These can be individual games or team sports that help increase social and turn-taking skills.
